Trade Out / Green Up Calculator

Also known as a Hedging or Green Up calculator. Enter your original back bet and the current lay price to calculate the exact lay stake needed to lock in a profit — or minimise a loss — across all outcomes.

The Art of the Green Screen

Gamblers hope. Traders calculate. This tool is the bridge between the two.

The concept is simple: Back High, Lay Low. If you back a horse at 10.0 and the price drops to 5.0, you have created value. Instead of letting the bet ride and risking a full loss, this calculator tells you exactly how much to lay to guarantee a profit no matter what the result.

Green Up vs Red Up: What Do the Colours Mean?

  • • Green Up (Profit): Your lay odds are lower than your back odds. You have made a good trade. The calculator shows how to spread that profit equally across all outcomes — you win even if the horse loses.
  • • Red Up (Stop Loss): Your lay odds are higher than your back odds. The market has gone against you. The calculator shows how to exit the trade and cap the damage. Taking a small controlled loss now is better than losing the full stake.

The Golden Rule: Nobody Ever Went Bust Taking a Profit

The hardest part of trading is not the maths — this tool handles that. It is the greed.

Scenario: You back a horse at 10.0. It trades down to 6.0 pre-race.

The greedy punter says: "It is steaming in — I will let it ride for the big win!"
The smart trader says: "I will Green Up now."

If you Green Up you might win less than if the horse wins outright — but you eliminate the risk entirely. Over a season, consistent small green screens beat the occasional big win followed by ten losses every time.

Master the Markets

Trading is about maths, not luck. Sharpen your edge with these tools.
